I do like my gadgets and after using a number of Blackberrys, a Nokia E61, O2s and some i-mates I have now bought myself a AT&T TyTN II – it’s just a re-badged HTC. The features are awesome but I am in Australia and being an AT&T phone I have had to configure it from scratch. It’s been fun (at times).
So far I am really happy with the device, but it has a lot to live up to. My Nokia E61 was fantastic, reliable and worked well until I dropped it one too many times.
The only problem with the TynTN phone so far is some usability complaints around accessing phone features and a really cheap sounding speaker for hands-free.
The reason for this post? Well I had a large number of problems configuring my device to run on the 3 network here in Australia. If you own an original HTC branded device you can download their Network Wizard and it does it all for you, but if you own a non-HTC branded device your phone supplier needs to provide all of your phone upgrades. Needless to say that left me stranded.
After a couple of days searching around I finally found the Network Wizard in a CAB file. You can download this file and install it on your device. Reboot after installing it (I installed it via ActiveSync) and then run the Wizard (Start > Settings > Connections), which on my device does not have a label just an icon with stars and a wand. Select your country and provider, reboot AGAIN and away you go. This file is a life saver.

Hi, this sounds amazing. Do you know if anyone has tried this or will this work in the UK for Three Network?

@Jay:
There should be no problem at all with using this CAB for the UK – it lists all global networks as far as I can tell.
If you are wondering about the safety of the file here are some comments:

I have an old HTC and now i have just purchased a AT&T Tyn II Tilt. I have a 3 card. I can login in to HTC Australia website and thre is a an upgarde fror HTC Tyn ii so to use all the 3 functions. Can I just download this flsh…even though it is not made for AT&T. they are both the same HTC Tync II Tilt model. I was worried this might void my warrranty? Is there a better way to get to use my inetrnet on my 3 account? I woudl also love to get rid of all the American trash on my AT&T. Any ideas? Thanks. Nathan

@Nathan:
Firstly the CAB I link to above will work fine on your AT&T TyTN, it is the one I used when I first got my Tilt.
Secondly, I in no way do I offer advice on your warranty. But let’s face it, why get a phone like the Tilt and not install software on it? That’s what a smart phone is all about. The CAB only configures your network settings, it does not affect anything else.
Lastly, YES blow away the AT&T ROM! Though how this will affect your warranty? I dont’t know, but the links I provide below talk about how to reinstall the phone back to its original state for warranty claims.
I did blow away my AT&T ROM and I installed the original HTC ROM and the phone has never been better. The UI is nicer and 3 will actually give you phone support (don’t tell them it’s an AT&T just call it a HTC)!
To do this, follow the instructions here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
AND
use an original HTC ROM (HTC WM6.1 ROMS) from here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs

@Phillip:
Here are some instructions which is a good step-by-step procedure for you:

This basic procedure should work for any Windows Mobile device.

Andrew,
I used you CAB file on my Hong Kong Tytn2 and it appears to work but with a few flaws.
Whenever I try to access Planet3 it kicks me off 3G/H settings and back to EDGE roaming.
Also, when in 3G/H mode I cannot send/receive text messages.
The ROM version I have is 1.81.710.1 WWE using Radio 1.27.12.11
Any help would be great, thanks.

I just ditched my Incite for that Tilt 2 (AT&T) All I can say is WOW this is a better phone! I see lots of messages here regarding the TP2, is this a different phone completely, or is it just the Verizon version of the same phone with slightly different interface? Was there a Tilt 1? I am trying to get accessories and want to make sure I don’t buy the wrong stuff.
