It’s not a secret that I love Flickr and I love all of the good things you can do with it. Actually Flickr is the only site I have a personally paid membership with! It’s great.

This appreciation of the Flickr service naturally led me to checking out MOO.com and all of their nifty little printing services. I also took advantage of their 10 free MiniCards offer for Flickr PRO account holders. After placing my free order, the mailman delivered my free MOO MiniCards and the world was good, the print quality was great and my friends and family loved them. WOW.

So after uploading my latest photos to Flickr, I thought it was time to follow up with my second order to MOO. I jumped on the Web and eagerly ordered a new print run.

I ordered:

  • 100 MiniCards
  • 1 MiniCard Holder.

7 business days later, exactly as promised, the mailman visited again. The Holder was good and all things were right with the world. But then I opened my MiniCards, and things went sour. I was not happy at all with the cards. So what was wrong?

The problems:

  • The MiniCards had a matte finish that was not the same quality as my first delivery: perhaps MOO needs to offer a surface selection in their process?
  • Dull, lifeless printed colours: Perhaps colour calibration on my monitors is out, or perhaps my photos are just not as saturated as I thought, but I really feel that the prints I have received are not as rich as they should have been.

So I am not happy. Was this a problem with the images I submitted? I don’t think so, as I can compare both printing batches side-by-side and there is certainly a visible difference – and YES I did use a number of the same photos in both batches.

MOO do have a contact form for service, perhaps I will send them my thoughts…
